Top 5 Favorite Songs from Musicals

Continuing with broadway week- let's do my favorite songs from musicals cause why not! I think I'm going to limit it 1 per musical... I might do honorable Mentions as well though.

1)The Room Where it Happened- Hamilton

Okay this is my favorite song from Hamilton! It's just an interesting story and I like the dynamic between Burr and Hamilton in this song. This is where Burr really starts to become his rival... it's just exciting.

2) Wait For me - Hadestown

This is probably the standout song of Hadestown and one of the most beautiful songs honestly. I really liked all the music in Hadestown so much and although I would say "We Build The Wall" is the big earworm song (and I do love Hades) for me... but Wait for Me is the best one.

3) Cell Block Tango- Chicago

This one is a favorite for everyone right??? So funny and just really good overall. I don't remember the performance during the play all that well... but I did really love the actors in the movie. In the play I do remember it's kind of heartbreaking that the one woman isn't guilty... but she still hangs for it... that scene in the play I think is very powerful and this scene really sets it up.

4) The Whole "Being Dead" Thing- Beetlejuice-

This is probably the best song from Beetlejuice. It's just so funny and the reprise of this... it's all just really good. It sets up the world that we're in really really well.

5) Sparklejollytwinklejingly- Elf

This song is hard to say... but I still love singing it. It's very Christmas-y and over the top- just like Buddy the Elf! I wish this song was a little more well known because I think it's a great Christmas song in general.

Honorable Mentions:

Popular- Wicked

Great song... but a little teensy tiny bit annoying. I like that this establishes Glinda and Elphaba's friendship. This and Defying Gravity are probably the songs I think of when I think of Wicked... but this one stands out to me a little more. Defying Gravity is still great though.

Hard To Be The Bard- Something Rotten

I forgot about this song! It's hard to write things and this is my Writer's Block Anthem. I also just like that Shakespeare is basically like a rock star in this play.

A Musical- Something Rotten

Seeing this live is funnier than the cast recording because there are so many broadway references in this song that it's fun to try to keep track of them... but this was a fun song and a really great performance.

Ready Set, Not Yet- Beetlejuice

In the movie Beetlejuice the Maitlands are my favorite characters and while I don't think they are in this play... I do still love this song... it's so catchy and this is the most real song I think. I feel like it's easy to get married and not be ready to start your life together... but then dying and also not being ready to spend your whole afterlife together... there's something beautiful and mundane about this song... and I love it!

I could probably name a lot more... but this is all I'm going to say for now! I hope you guys like this list!

Bye!

-Shannon
