25 Days of 2025 Movies: Borderline

Okay, so I was looking for 2025 movies that I haven’t seen before to watch for this challenge and one I saw that was available on Prime was a movie called Borderline starring Samara Weaving from Ready or Not, Ray Nicholson- who’s dad is Jack Nicholson, and Eric Dane from Grey’s Anatomy. So I thought the cast was great and I was looking forward to watching this movie… but I ended up being a little bit underwhelmed with the movie as a whole.

The movie takes place in the 90s and Samara Weaving plays Sofia- a famous singer and Ray Nicholson is her stalker who escapes prison after shooting her bodyguard Bell (Eric Dane.) Nicholson’s character Paul has a plan that he’s going to Kidnap Sofia and force her to marry him… but his insanity and possible Face Blindness leads to… things not going as planned.

This movie is mostly a dark comedy and kind of a thriller. I liked the characters and I didn’t think the movie was that bad… but I didn’t really like it that much either. I think it’s worth watching for Ray Nicholson alone… he’s an entertaining actor and I don’t know if he was my favorite part of the movie… but I think he’s worth watching in it.

I think my main problem with the movie was the pacing of it. They jumped around in storytelling which is good for the comedy aspects of the movie… but if you’re watching it as more of a thriller it really cuts down the suspense.

Overall this is a movie that’s rated pretty low on IMDB… and while watching it I kind of agreed but in retrospect it’s kind of a fun movie. I explained it to my mom and Grandma because I didn’t think they’d want to see it but they do like thrillers and I thought they’d like knowing that Jack Nicholson’s son looks so much like him and he’s a really good actor also.

I also loved Eric Dane in this. I think he might have retired from acting because of his declining health from ALS… but he’s such a good character actor that I wish he was in more parts like this. I definitely have to see if he’s in any more movies because he had a small kind of nothing role- but he was so likable and just kind of added to the movie in a really good way.

So while this might end up being low on my list when I rank all these movies… I still think you can totally watch and enjoy this one. It was a fun one.
