Throwback Thursday: The Least Realistic Episode of Friends with the WORST message

Okay so... Season 1 of Friends wasn't bad... but it's definitely the worst season and while this particular episode is fun to watch and entertaining... it's just got a really far fetched concept and the ending is just strange.

So the episode in question is "The One With The Fake Monica" in which Monica gets her credit card stolen and she ends up BEFRIENDING the woman that's stealing from her. So Monica wants to see who this woman and she goes with Phoebe and Rachel to a dance class that Monica is paying for the fake Monica to go to... and she ends up being partnered up with Fake Monica and she ends up befriending her and doing all these fun things with her and admiring her... and she's sad when Fake Monica goes to jail.

And no one is ever like "So you're just going to keep being friends with this woman that's stealing from you?" Rachel does act concerned that Monica is going to get fired from her job but she's never concerned about this woman stealing from Monica.

And at the end of the episode the bank calls Monica and they tell her the fake Monica was arrested... and she's sad that her friend is in jail... and she visits her. Which is weird because I don't think the Credit Card company would tell Monica what jail this person was in or anything... and Fake Monica was surprised to see her at the jail so she didn't tell Monica where she was. And Monica just says she wasn't mad that the fake Monica was stealing from her, she's just not sure she wants to go back to how she used to be because she had fun with fake Monica. And fake Monica doesn't really care- she's in jail and she doesn't like it and just tells Monica "you'll go back to the old Monica because that's who you are." And then Monica goes to the dance class and dances like no one's watching.

And that's it! That's just kind of a bad message and I don't seriously think Monica would be okay with this woman stealing from her- even if she does have a great personality. I think the gang would be a little bit more concerned about Monica's friendship with her too. Also I think we're supposed to feel bad that Fake Monica is in jail... but she's a criminal that stole from Monica... so why would we?

One scene I really liked about this episode was the first scene at the dance class with Monica, Rachel and Phoebe. Monica is having a horrible time dancing because she's so uncoordinated- and Rachel is getting all the steps because of corse she does she's Rachel, and Phoebe also isn't getting the steps but Phoebe is really confident and she just thinks she's doing everything exactly right and does not care otherwise because stop her it looks amazing.

Anyway- that's about it. This episode also has Ross getting rid of Marcel who is... maturing and destroying all of Rachel's toys. Also Chandler tricks Joey into changing his stage name to the name of a dictator, and someone who made headlines in the 90s... for reasons.
