25 Days of Romance Movies: 27 Dresses (2008)

Okay- fun fact when I saw this movie in theaters with 2 of my friends in 2008- I think it was a matinee… the cost was just $27 for all 3 of us! I laughed and the ticket taker also laughed and said “wow one dollar per dress” and he was often a little grumpy towards me because I was a Teenager trying to see R rated
movies and they got VERY strict about that in NJ around 2008-2010. I’m too old now to know if they’re that strict about it. Also everyone at my movie theater knows who I am by now- so they are quite chill about it.
Anyway back to this movie- this is a very silly rom com with a very silly concept but it is very good if you don’t really think about it that much. It’s about Jane who is a very nice lady that just can’t say no to people and she loves weddings and she’s been a bridesmaid 20+ times. I think at the start of the movie she’s in her 25th and 26th wedding and then she’s a bridesmaid for her coworker during the movie bringing us to 27. We also see some of her dresses in a montage, She’s been in a Gone With The Wind Wedding, an LA wedding with a very short dress, a wedding where men wore dresses and women wore tuxes… and several others.
She ends up getting spotted going to 2 weddings in one night by Kevin aka Wedding writer Malcom Doyle- played by James Marsden. He wants to do something other than writing about weddings for the paper and he think if he writes an article about Jane he’ll for sure get more serious work.
And he gets close to Jane and then feels bad about writing the article because he knows Jane isn’t crazy and he really likes her. He’s also trying to teach her that she doesn’t need to say yes to everyone… which she needed to learn.
This movie also has a B Plot where Jane is in love with her boss who ends up meeting her younger sister Tess and Tess is pretending to be a vegetarian and love the outdoors… but she’s not and she doesn’t. She also uses his “little brother” from the big brothers big sisters program to clean their apartment which… is bad also weird choice. I kind of like this B plot and I think the way it’s resolved is pretty good. We don’t know whether the two have a happy ending together but I think we can assume they might.
Alright that is everything! I was planning on ending this series of 25 days of romance on valentine’s day and then doing the ranking on the 15th- however I’m a little bit behind on my movies and I’m also trying to finish Wuthering Heights. So I think I might take a day to 3 days off- finish Wuthering Heights the book, see Wuthering Heights the movie and then review one more movie- i’m thinking sleepless in seattle and then do my ranking.
Bye!
