Shannon’s Adventures: Smithville Mayfest

One of my favorite times of year again and that is the Smithville Mayfest! I always love going to Smithville and checking out the shops and this year because my house is currently under renovations- I do not have space for a lot of stuff and I’ve been shopping less than I typically do… so I went in with a different approach to the festival. I just kind of liked walking around and looking at the shops- I tried on some clothes and I wanted to get some more than what I ended up getting… but I did not get any jewelry and I didn’t get any boutique clothing.

So there are a few vendors I really like and I pretty much always buy something from and I have not seen those vendors in a long time. Which is sad. There are stores I usually always buy stuff from too- mainly Trendie Treasures and Fairest of Them All… I did see some jewelry I liked at Fairest of Them All that I will likely buy in the fall when I go down there next time… but I’m a little bit superstitious about Crystals and because I’m not in my usual routine I don’t want to bring any negative energy that may be attached to a Crystal inside of my house. I know that sounds weird- but trust me I’ve worn a Crystal I got from the store right out of the store and… that Crystal had bad bitch energy that just did not match my bad bitch energy. It was something else.

So what I did buy were a lot of trinkets! There were so many stores selling tiny trinkets and charms and I have bought lots of trinkets from these stores in the past… but because of how I stored them… I’m a little uncertain how they will be looking now. I’m sure they’ll be fine… but I’m not even really sure where I packed them and I know I didn’t wrap them in anything and… the moving crew are very good but they aren’t the most gentle.

So yeah I got a lot of little trinkets and I also got a lot of notebooks. My mom got me some Wicked Notebooks that are beautiful and I got a tiny little notebook called a fairy diary and I’m using it as a mini sketchbook and junk journal and I’m loving that so far… its amazing!

I also got a couple of t shirts! There are a few stores that sell some cool t shirts- one has some political t shirts and merchandise that I’m not a fan of… to be fair they do also have political merchandise that I am a fan of… but there is much more of one than the other… and they have a lot of vintage looking shirts and some vintage merchandise. The other store is a Rock and Roll Store that has tons of cool stuff. I got the t shirts at the vintage looking store… I was looking for Elvis and Dolly Parton… and I ended up with Elvis and Wizard of Oz. So that was pretty successful.

Also at that same store I saw that they had something thats on my thrifting wish list and it was at a decent price… I probably should have bought it then but I’m hoping it might still be there in October. I don’t want to say the exact thing or the price because I don’t want anyone buying it… but it’s from a show that I really really like.

The Rock and Roll store is great too it’s just a bit harder to find a t shirt for a specific thing in there. I think if you’re looking for a horror movie you might have luck with it but a band or singer… it’s not a lot. I did end up getting some cool pins from there though.

I also got some snacks I got a cookie from the snack shack that I ate right away and I got some pretzels that were buffalo ranch flavored. Honestly last time I got a zesty Parmesan pretzel that I liked way more and I’m not really a big fan of Parmesan.

And yeah I’m sure I’ll be back for Oktoberfest… I have never been to Smithville during the regular year- but I’m sure it would be just as fun. A lot of the stores are open daily- so that’s awesome.
