25 Days of Romance Movies: Forces of Nature

I definitely thought this was going to be more of a rom com when I saw the poster for this movie. Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck star in this movie which is sort of a romantic Dark Comedy similar to Trains, Planes and Automobiles. Ben Affleck plays Ben- a man who is afraid of flying and his plane ends up making an emergency landing somewhere right before his wedding day and Sarah is the somewhat eccentric stranger who’s down on her luck and needs Ben Affleck for a favor.
I kind of liked the concept of this movie but I won’t think it aged well at all. Sandra Bullock is fun to watch in this movie… but I kind of think her character is kind of a negative stereotype of women in the 90s who were in bad relationships and I’m just not quite sure what the message of this movie was.
The movie also just kind of feels like Ben is cheating on his fiance for most of the movie and at the end it seemed like he didn’t think he was really ready to get married… but spoilers he does end up marrying his fiance and him and Sarah just go their seperate ways at the end.
He also promised to pretend to be Sarah’s husband because she was trying to get 25,000 from something and hide it from her husband so that she can divorce him and give it to her son who she never really sees because she was 17 when she had him. Ben Affleck just kind of leaves her to get married, which is fair… but he’s also like “your son doesn’t need that money. He just wants to see you.” So I guess her crappy husband ends up getting her money and probably divorced her??? They don’t really say what happens to Sarah at the end of the movie other than she sees her son.
I don’t think I can recommend this movie. I do like seeing Sandra Bullock’s 90s movies but… this one didn’t stand the test of time. I think that’s why i’ve never really heard of it or seen it up until now… although I might have seen parts of it when I was little- I don’t think this is one my sister or mom really liked to watch that often.
Bye!
