RIP David Lynch

I am having a very difficult day for personal reasons… but one thing that just kind of kicked me while I was down that the legendary director and one of my favorite directors- David Lynch passed away.
David Lynch is probably best known for the television series Twin Peaks which I highly recommend. It only lasted 2 seasons and then came back years later on Showtime with a very unusual Return season and… it was unlike anything that has been on tv before or since really. It started out as a nighttime soap with kind of a mystery whodunnit aspect- but the quirky town and its beloved characters really set it apart and made it one of if not the best tv dramas of all time.
Besides that- Lynch has several acclaimed movies from all throughout his career. I’ve seen Blue Velvet, Eraserhead and The Straight Story. Also of corse my personal favorite is the Twin Peaks prequel movie: Fire Walk With Me. All of these movies have a very unique and distinct tone that you can just tell is David Lynch.
My boyfriend and I were shopping in a very quiet bookstore recently and all of a sudden a man walks in and is very loudly asking for something that he ordered… and it was very strange… and I told my boyfriend after “I wanted to buy something- but we got stuck in a David Lynch movie… we could have been stuck at the register for hours.” And he got it immediately.
Recently David Lynch talked about his emphysema which left him unable to direct in person- and I think he was unable to leave his house. Lynch was a long time smoker who I believe quit 5 years ago if I remember correctly.
If you would like to see any of David Lynch’s works- most of them are available on Max. Twin Peaks is available on Paramount Plus, I believe The Return is only available on Paramount Plus with Showtime. And The Straight Story is available on Disney Plus. I think Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is also available on Max. I believe all of these movies and shows are also available in Physical Media form- a lot of them have criterion collection dvds.
If you’re like me and you love The X Files I definitely recommend watching Twin Peaks… the two kind of go hand in hand- and in general I 100% recommend all of his works that I’ve seen… and definitely listen to the soundtracks and scores for these movies too. Most of them are from Angelo Badlementi and the scores just totally make the movies and shows.
I could probably keep going on and on about how much I love David Lynch and Twin Peaks- but I will end this post with a very heavy heart.
RIP David Lynch.
-Shannon
