25 Days of Romance Movies: She’s The Man (2006)

Today we have another modern day Shakespeare retelling- this time it’s Twelth Night and I think all the character names are the same. Amanda Bynes plays Viola, a young girl that loves soccer and just wants to play for her schools team- but they get cut and she wants to play for the boys team but they don’t let her. Her brother Sebastian is a musician with a gig in London so he can’t make it to his prep school- so Viola poses as him so that she can play soccer.

Viola’s roommate is Duke played by a young Channing Tatum and she ends up falling for him. Duke has a crush on Olivia who he’s liked forever but she’s not really interested in him- and when she meets Viola/Sebastian she ends up falling for Sebastian.

Sebastian comes home and is unaware of Viola’s plan and that’s when everything kind of starts to change.

This was a fun movie. I don’t think it’s as good as 10 Things I Hate About You and I might prefer Anyone But You to this… but I thought this was a fun retelling and it was a good modern take on Twelth Night.
