Pop Culture Throwback Thursday: Pete Wentz Doxing Gabe Saporta at the VMAs

So when I was in high school... it was really exciting when Cobra Starship started to get popular and they were invited to the VMA awards. Cobra Starship and Fall Out Boy were my favorite bands at the time- and it was just fun to see them together at the award show. The Cobra Starship front man aka the love of my life (other than my amazing boyfriend) Gabe Saporta was also really funny and best friends with Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy.

So Pete Wentz and Gabe presented together and Pete wore a shirt that said "Please Call Gabe Saporta" with his phone number on it and then sold a limited number of the shirts on his website... and a friend of mine bought the shirt for me and I still own it.

So I'm not quite sure how Gabe felt about it at the time. Overall I think it was probably good exposure for his band- I think he just changed his number right away- and I'm sure that there was some sort of agreement on it at some point. Gabe also got back at him by making his own shirt that said "please call Pete Wentz" with his number on it.

Overall- this was a weird time. I think by todays standards Pete would have been cancelled but the fan girls back then just wanted to call Gabe Saporta and didn't care if it was sort of unethical for Pete Wentz to just give his number out at the VMAs. It also seems like the guys were both good sports over it. Neither of them seemed to really care about it either.

So overall this is something that pretty much only worked during that one period of time... and things might have been better back then because of it- but I'm also glad that like Taylor Swift isn't just giving out Selena Gomez's number on tv or anything. That would be crazy!

So that is everything for this throwback. Hope you guys like it!

Bye!
