25 Days of 2025 Movies: Drop

One movie that I don’t think was the best of the year- but I definitely liked it and I knew it was better than a lot of similar movies that I had seen this year: Drop! This is a Blumhouse thriller starring Megan Fahy from White Lotus and Brandon Sklenar from It Ends With Us. They are on a first date when Fahay’s character Violet gets some anonymous drops threatening her family and telling her to poison Henry (Sklenar).
I do like the buildup of this movie and it is quite suspenseful… BUT I think once we learn who the villain is and why… they’re plan kind of falls apart.
The reveal of the villain I think is either too early in the movie or too late. There isn’t much to lead us to him being the villain and I think that was kind of a missed opportunity- but also… everything is resolved basically when we find out who it is. It wasn’t really implied but it also wasn’t shocking at all… so the suspense kind of middles. They drag some parts out too long and other parts aren’t long enough.
One reason I wanted to rewatch this movie was that I missed a lot of the beginning because my boyfriend and I ran a little late and missed the opening credits- and it took a while to get my popcorn because there were a lot of teenagers seeing The Minecraft Movie when we saw it. So I noticed he was taking a while so I went out to see if I could help him and I missed parts of the scene before she gets to the restaurant. There wasn’t much that I missed- but a lot of it sets up what happens in the ending which I did really like. Plus there was a pretty good dynamic between Violet and her sister which also comes into play at the end of the movie.
I’ve seen a lot of people not liking this movie and I guess I can see that compared with a lot of the other thrillers and horror movies from this year- it’s on the weaker side… but it is a fun thriller. If you’re looking for a movie you can watch with your mom or something that isn’t too scary but it’s still suspenseful… this is a good one.
Bye!
