If you’ve noticed I haven’t really been that into Marvel… but I was pretty excited by all the trailers I had seen for Thunderbolts*. Plus the characters were all characters I like from other Marvel movies and even though I didn’t see Captain America: Brave New World- I think the movie set the universe up to go to more interesting places- and I can say after seeing this movie I’m very excited for Fantastic 4 and for The Avengers- and any other marvel movie or show that might come out.
Now I’m not super caught up with all things Marvel. The most recent one that I’ve seen is Deadpool and Wolverine. I didn’t see The Marvels or Captain America and I haven’t watched that many of the shows. I think you can go into this movie not really knowing a lot. It might be useful to see Black Widow beforehand- or Falcon and Winter Soldier- but I think my parents want to see this movie and I think they’ll still have fun seeing it without knowing any of those. I might watch black widow with them before or at least explain who Yelena and Alexi are- but I think they can understand enough and they’ll still probably like the movie.
My boyfriend and I also aren’t really big fans of the Marvel jokes in movies… and this one we actually laughed out loud in quite a few times. It was a really fun movie and all the characters were really great! I really liked Bob- I thought he was a fun addition to the crew.
Honestly one of my favorite parts of this movie is one of my least favorite parts of every other marvel movie and that is Julia Louis Dreyfus… I’ve mentioned this in other Marvel reviews that I’ve done that it just feels very odd that every single movie just has a scene with Julia Louis Dreyfus trying to recruit all these characters… and in Black Panther 2 it felt particularly distracting… but in this movie I really liked her. I feel like it paid off that she’s been making cameos in like every Marvel Movie and show for the last several years.
So overall if you’re looking for a fun movie to see this weekend - totally recommend Thunderbolts. It’s a good way to get into action movies and probably a good starting point if you want to start getting into the Marvel universe or getting back into it.
I have one theory about something that happened in the movie too so I think I’ll post about that tomorrow or sometime during the week… and yeah!
Bye!
