Movie Monday: Superman (2025) Review

Yesterday I finally got to see one of my most anticipated movies of the year: the new Superman directed by James Gunn. So as much as I love comic movies and DC- I've never actually seen a Superman movie. I think I might have watched an animated Superman as a kid but I can't say I've ever had much interest in the character or movies. This movie looked more exciting to me because they have been playing actual clips from the movie along with the trailer... and it just seemed like it was going to be a really fun movie.

This was a very fun movie- I would actually say its one of my favorite superhero movies- I would compare it to how I felt when I saw the first Toby McGuire Spider- Man movie with my grandparents. I think they would have had fun seeing this movie too. I know they probably watched the earlier superman movies with my mom when she was little.

I also think James Gunn was the perfect choice for this movie and I'm so excited to see where the DCCU goes with its other characters and what else they do. One thing I loved was that this movie did not take itself too seriously- it was very action packed and it had a great message... but it was also funny at times and I think we need that in our action movies right now. I haven't seen many of the DC movies that have come out recently because they all look so serious and it just kind of takes the fun out of the comic aspect of the movie. James Gunn has a very good sense of humor and I'm excited to see a sillier Batman and Wonderwoman movie... and maybe this will lead to other action movies being a little sillier... like my favorite action hero: James Bond.

I also thought the cast did a fantastic job. They even gave Clark's coworkers like Lois and Jimmy Olsen some good storylines and Lois was really important in this movie and very active in the action. Plus it was a sweet love story... I don't want to spoil it too much- but she is the only one at one point that really believes in Superman and it was nice to see. I also loved the outfits she wore in this movie.

So overall... this was a pretty perfect movie.

Okay- so my rating overall which I've kind of forgot about lately.

Cast: 5

As I mentioned before I thought the cast was perfect. Nicolas Hoult was a great villain, David Corenswet was a great superman, I loved Rachel Brosnahan as Lois... and anything with Alan Tudyk in it is perfect.

Gets Feeling of the Genre- 5

If you're in the mood to watch a comic book movie... this one is perfect!

How did it Look- 5

The CGI was great and this really brought Metropolis to life. I want to see it again in 3d because of how much I liked how it looked!

Music- 5

There was one scene where I didn't really know if I liked how the music fit into the scene... and that is the scene with Lois and Mr. Terrific... but I did really like the song overall so I'm still giving this a 5. I think the scene needed this.

I also didn't mention how much I loved Mr. Terrific in this review- but I think he was my favorite character.

Press 5

They showed a whole scene from the movie as a trailer... and that could either be terrible or brilliant but in this case it was brilliant. It got me really excited to see it and it didn't give too much of the movie away. The Merch for this movie has also been pretty good- it isn't everywhere the way the Wicked Merch is I guess... but it kind of is everywhere. So far I bought one crop top from Boxlunch... and I was tempted by the Daily Planet Popcorn Bucket at AMC. Didn't get it... but I think its cool looking.

Okay that is everything- I hope you guys liked this movie! Tomorrow I'll try to post more about my trip and then maybe I'll post something different the next day. It might be something I post about every other day now.

Bye!

-Shannon
