Sooo I wrote a whole blog talking about this controversy, the who the f*** did I take to Mexico TikTok’s and the Mr. Beast situation… but I think those are much heavier topics and this one… I feel like it’s just celebrities being dumb and I think I can talk about that.
Let’s start this out with the Book It Ends With Us because the book is kind of controversial in its own right because- it’s about DV… but I don’t think it mentions anywhere on the cover that it’s about DV. So you just kind of have to read it and figure out that it’s about DV… or look up some spoilers but… there really aren’t any clues besides maybe the title It Ends With Us sounds like it could be about DV.
This is off topic but I think it’s important to bring up… the author Colleen Hoover at one point was going to have a coloring book for It Ends With Us and it received immediate backlash and the book was cancelled. Colleen Hoover is also a survivor of DV- which she talks about at the end of the book and that is what inspired her to write the book. I’ve read the book and I did really like it. I’ve read 3 books from Colleen Hoover and this is probably my favorite of the 3 I read.
So I think this could have been marketed a lot better than it has been. They should have been a bit more up front about the movies themes…. And honestly they could have actually helped people. I feel like they should have been in women’s shelters actually helping women. Blake Lively could have launched her hair care line but maybe use some of the funds to help women’s organizations. There’s a lot that could be done and… I’m surprised that they didn’t do it.
I think the problem is that the cast is kind of funny during interviews and they seem to just be making a lot of jokes and… it seems like they had a fun time filming this… but the way they’re promoting it just makes it seem like it’s a rom com that you can watch with all of your friends and it isn’t a romantic comedy… it’s more of a drama.
On the other side of this is the director and producer of the film- Justin Baldoni who seems to want to talk about the fact that the movie is about domestic abuse and violence. He says he wants any real life Lilly’s to be able to find the help and resources they need to get out of terrible situations. I think fans noticed that Colleen Hoover and Blake Lively had unfollowed him on Instagram… which seems weird.
So while I don’t think Blake Lively handled things well with promoting the movie she is getting a lot a lot of hate right now and… I’m not sure that it’s all deserved. She was rude in the one interview that people are showing… and people are kind of taking other little things that she’s done or things people have said about her or not said about her and making her seem like the worst person of all time… but there are men that are still respected and loved that do similar things. I don’t think her behavior has been great… but I’d still watch her movies, I’d buy her hair products maybe and I didn’t unfollow her on Instagram. I hope that she learns from this and maybe gives some more thought when she’s taking roles and marketing movies.
Ill probably still see this movie too. I don’t think it looks all that great- but I did read the book… so I have to see the movie. And my Nana read the book so I’ll probably watch it with her when it comes out on DVD.
Bye!
