Okay I’ve seen more movies this year than I think I ever have… and I’ve gotta say my favorite so far has definitely been Sinners and I’m really excited.
So I like Ryan Coogler, I really loved the Black Panther movies and the Creed movies… but Sinners is honestly his masterpiece so far. Coogler is also rebooting one of my all time favorite shows: The X Files so I am hoping that will be even better than Sinners as that is Cooglers next project… but this movie was incredible.
So it’s a period movie and it’s a little bit of a long set up to get to the actual horror of the movie… but honestly the setup is so good and interesting that if this movie was just a period movie I still would have liked it. So Michael B Jordan is playing 2 characters in this one, Stack and Smoke. Stack and Smoke are heading back to the south after working with Al Capone in Chicago- and they came back with a lot of money and they wanted to start a business. They bought a house and they wanted to have a Juke there so that their younger cousin Sammie could play music and they could have some fun. And it shows them getting people to help them run this concert and Sammie singing and playing guitar… and everyone’s excited for it everyone’s got a job to do with it and everything seems to be going really well… until they’re not.
So this is a vampire movie that’s set mostly in one location and it’s kind of a Marshall law type of thing. Anything that can go wrong does go wrong- and every tiny minute little detail brought up at any point in the movie is used for the horror elements of the movie. And it’s great. The vampires are very scary and powerful… but they’re also a little bit cheesy and a little silly. And there are so many moments in the movie that are just really really funny and will make you laugh out loud. The whole audience when I saw it was having a great time.
There are also Post Credits scenes in this movie… which is really great- there were some plot twists revealed in the movie… I really loved it. I think if you like historical movies you’ll like this one a lot, if you like the kind of cheesier more 80s vampire movies you’ll like it a lot… and if you like horror movies that don’t really take themselves too seriously they’re just a fun movie… you will like this movie.
VERY MINOR SPOILER WARNING
The movie also takes place on October 16th- which is my birthday… so i liked that element of the movie a lot… and it actually flashes forward in the end to October 16th 1992- Which is the day I turned 1 year old! Lol.
So overall I highly recommend checking this movie out. I saw it opening day- I just couldn’t get around to writing a review until now… and yeah I loved it!
Bye!
