Movie Monday:Challengers Movie Review

So I finally got to see the movie Challengers… and it wasn’t a bad movie at all but I’m not sure it was worth all the hype it’s been getting. I’m still kind of trying to decide if I liked it or if I thought it was okay.

So first off- the acting in this movie was fantastic! Zendaya did an amazing job- the 2 male leads were also really great. This was probably not an easy movie to act in either because there are so many scenes where they have whole conversations and they’re not speaking at all… and you can understand it from the subtext as an audience member. I think the cast did an incredible job with that.

I also really liked that this is completely a tennis movie. And I mean that because the back and forth nature of the plot and the characters and even the music… it felt like a tennis match the whole way through- and it was really brilliant.

That being said- it was a tennis movie. And I’m not super into tennis or sports… but I do like sports movies usually… but it was kind of more about tennis than it was about Zendaya and her two boyfriends and the one she ends up marrying. And I was more there for Zendaya and the two boyfriends. But I guess if I was there for a tennis movie I would have probably thought it was more about Zendaya and her two boyfriends.

I also wonder if the audience I saw it with didn’t help at all. Cause it was a packed theater- but it didn’t seem like anyone was having a good time with it. I think a lot of it was parents seeing it to supervise their teenagers who were watching in different seats… and there was one dad in the front row that was just on his phone the whole movie and… idk I just like when people actually watch the movie and they’re excited to see it. I didn’t really get that from our crowd… there were no jokes in the movie really so no one really laughed… there was no one going “oooohhhh” or “oh no” and I feel like I could have used those.

So it wasn’t a bad movie at all- it was just kind of a movie that I watched and it had parts I kind of liked.

Bye!
