Okay so one of my favorite movies of all time and one of my favorite musicals of all time is Beetlejuice so of corse… I was excited and nervous to see Beetlejuice was having a sequel… with Michael Keaton reportedly wondering whether or not they should have done the movie or left it alone… I was kind of worried. BUT I was pleasantly surprised with how funny and original the movie was while still keeping the things that made Beetlejuice… the great movie that it was!

So I loved that most of the original characters were in the movie- or at least mentioned- and I thought all the new characters were great too. Astrid, Wolf Jackson, Rory, Delores and Bob too I guess. All really good characters and they all added a lot to the story. It kept the silly spookiness of Beetlejuice and gave us some new and interesting people.

There’s a lot going on in the movie itself… but all the different plots kind of resolve quickly and end without overstaying their welcome really. There was Astrid’s plot, the Delores plot, Lydia, Delia… they all connected to each other nicely- but they still had their own adventures of getting there… and they did a really good job with it. It was a really good follow up to the original and everyone had an ending… and it was interesting!

I liked a lot of parts in the movie… my nieces favorite part was the cartoon part which I thought was interesting, my sister really liked the cake song… I liked those too… I also got a lot of laughs from Rory and I really liked Willem Dafoe’s character. I liked how Astrid’s story with the ghost boyfriend unfolded too. And I really liked Bob and all of beetlejuice’s “Minions.” And I thought Delores was a pretty cool villain! I liked a lot about this movie.

So yes- I think this is a great follow up to the movie. Is it as good? Not really but it comes pretty close.

And it’s hard to top a movie I’ve loved for as long as I can remember. Definitely was not disappointed though- and overall it might be my favorite movie of the year!

Bye!
