Movie Monday: Abigail- Worst Vampire Movie?

So… I’m not finished with this movie I think I’ve got a half hour or more left… but I have to say I’m a little bit disappointed in it so far… I will edit this after I’ve seen the end to give an update about it… but it isn’t as scary as I thought and it seems like they could have leaned a little bit more into this being as funny as it should be… but instead it’s acting like it’s a horror movie that was made to be the first horror movie people have ever seen.

I do kind of like the set up of this movie: There’s a small group of people that are out to kidnap the daughter of a rich guy. They take her to this creepy old house- and she ends up being a vampire.

First off… if this movie had been marketed more similar to Longlegs… it might have been better. We didn’t need to know she was a vampire to want to see this movie… I think if they had just hinted that she was a monster without showing it in the trailer- it would be a bit better.

Okay yeah- I watched the end and it got worse actually. They don’t really establish what vampires are, the characters get no time to develop so there’s really no one to root for at the end… Abigail is bad, the kidnappers are bad… it’s all just kind of bad.

I think if the movie developed the characters better- maybe have them know each other a little it would be a bit better. I also thought there were a lot of things set up for a twist ending… but there wasn’t really a twist and that was really disappointing. I wasn’t expecting this movie to be art or anything but it just didn’t pay anything off when it could have.

They also don’t really establish the vampire rules for this universe… and that gets really really messy at the end of the movie. It’s like they didn’t really pay attention to what they were doing and it just ruined everything at the end.

So… that was kind of disappointing. It’s not the worst movie ever… but it is pretty close to being one of the worst ones.

Bye!
