May Diaries 14: Red White and Royal Blue Movie

So I had never seen the movie version of Red White and Royal Blue- but I have read the book. And I really liked the book and the movie was pretty good too!

One thing I was disappointed in was that they didn’t have Alex’s sister. Henry had a sister- but because it’s more about Alex than Henry it felt a little off that Alex didn’t have a sister. He did have his best friend- who was the Vice President’s granddaughter- but I felt like their relationship was different than it was in the book.

The ending of the movie felt a little bit rushed which I think made the movie a little bit less interesting but over all I did still like it. I thought the 2 main actors did a really good job- and everyone seemed like the characters in the book… but I was picturing someone more like McAffe from The Politician as the Vice President’s granddaughter. I don’t think she was badly cast but I’m not sure. She didn’t seem like she could be 100% professional and 100% fun. Maybe it’s just because she was basically because they combined the character of his sister with her but… it felt wrong.

This is worth a watch and apparently they’re making a sequel so I’ll watch that too. Overall I preferred the book- it wasn’t my favorite book ever but it was cute and I like Casey McQuinston’s writing style when it comes to forbidden love. It was really beautiful and I do think the movie kind of captured that.

Bye!
