June Challenges:Day 1- off to a good start

Okay so I’ve decided I’m kind of going to keep about 5 goals or challenges and… I’m going to update on the blog to hold myself accountable for them… maybe I’ll do this type of post every Sunday or Monday depending on when I have time to write… cause it’s a busy month for me this month but I think this will help it go a little more smoothly.

So… I’m kind of thinking about buying an Ereader… but as of right now I have a lot of physical books that I haven’t read yet… so I would like to see if I can get into the habit of reading daily. I’d like to start reading one hour a day every day… just to kind of get into the habit of it and maybe I’ll change or up my challenge next month.

Today I was successful! I read an hour and six minutes of The Fine Print by Laura Asher. This is the first book of her Dreamland Billionaire series which is 3 or 4 books about 3 brothers that inherit the fortune to their grandfather’s company… which is basically a Disney type theme park. He has some rules for each of the brothers though and they all end up finding love throughout the book. So this is a nice easy romance… I think I read about 60 pages or so??? I started it on my lunch break, I read it on another break I took at work and finished it at home… I think I ended up having about 20 minutes of reading left to do for the hour and I went 6 minutes over. I used a stopwatch on my phone to keep track. So far it’s an easy read and I’m hoping it’ll put me out of the reading slump I’ve kind of been in lately.

Next challenge: I’m trying to watch 1 movie a year from 1991- The year I was born all the way till this year… and I’ve been slacking on this challenge a bit- and one of the movies I started left the streaming service I was watching it on… ohhhh wait maybe it didn’t… I might have watched it on Tubi- I forgot about that one… anyway today I watched Nebraska on Paramount Plus… and this movie is why I like movies!

So Nebraska has an INCREDIBLE cast… it stars Will Forte, Bruce Dern, June Squibb and Bob Odenkirk. Bruce Dern’s character is an older man who drinks a lot and has 2 sons that. Bob Odenkirk is the older son and he’s a news anchor or a weather person I think and Will Forte is their main caretaker. Bruce Dern’s Character Woody gets a letter saying he won a million dollars… but it seems like a bogus letter and Will Forte’s character really doesn’t believe him. Woody still insists on going from Montana to Lincoln Nebraska and he bonds with his son- really both of his sons and his wife… and they go to the town they both grew up in, they see family members and visit some family members graves and old family homes… they end up learning a lot about their parents… and it turns out to be a good road trip with a good ending.

This movie made me laugh out loud, and it made me cry… but ultimately it’s just a good movie and it’s one I think I want to watch more often.

Alexander Payne directed this movie- I’ve actually seen a lot of his movies without really realizing it… and they are all good but this one is by far the best. This was a really fun watch and I will definitely watch it again. It’s at the top of my rankings for movies so far.

As far as my other challenges go… those are a little bit more personal and I still have to get to the parts of the month where these challenges will be more relevant… so I will get to those sometime soon… but so far I feel like I’m off to a good start and I feel motivated!

Bye!
