Can I Solve Only Murders in The Building Season 4? Episode 1: Once Upon a Time In The West

Only Murders in The Building is back and it may be better than ever and I have a notebook filled with clues and theories. Spoilers for Episode 1 and previous seasons of Only Murders in The Building.

Credit Clues šŸ•µļø šŸ¦®āœˆļø

Let’s start out with the big clues: the Opening and closing credits. So in the opening credits there was a shadow of a plane because the crew flies to Hollywood this year. This year we also see Howard walking a dog- who we learn is Gravey- a former Cadaver dog that Howard adopted because the shelter isn’t letting him adopt any more cats.

And the closing credits have Old Belgium Lager and the movie poster for the Only Murders in The Building movie poster. Does this mean the killer could be Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy or Zach Galifinakis? Probably not. The Old Belgium Lager is apparently a nod to Hercule Peroit and the Agatha Christie novels- which I learned thanks to Double P Media- my favorite OMITB recappers.

Speaking of Double P Media- they have warned that there are spoilers out there on Instagram… so I’m going to avoid looking up anything else about the show because I don’t want to get spoiled for the ending… or any point in the show. The spoiler they mentioned doesn’t necessarily show who the killer is- but it shows a lot.

New Characters šŸ‘ØšŸ»ā€šŸ¦³šŸ‘©šŸ½šŸ§”šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ‰šŸŽ

So in this season the gang flies to Hollywood to meet with executives that want to turn Only Murders in The Building into a movie starring Eugene Levy as Charles Hadden Savage, Eva Longoria as Mabel Mora and Zach Galifinakis as Oliver Putnam. I don’t think any of these characters will be our killer this season. The show typically doesn’t have the celebrities as the killers- although they seem suspicios at times… I don’t think it’s any of them.

My very first suspect was Bev Melon, it makes the most sense and I love Molly Shannon and would love to see her as the killer this season… but I’m wondering if maybe she’s a red herring. I’m not sure she would actually be the killer.

It’s a little too early to tell but I’m also kind of suspicious of The Brothers Sisters. I have a feeling there’s an identical twin theme to this season and that maybe Sazz and Charles are actually Brother and Sister… and that could be the ā€œsensitive informationā€ that Sazz was talking about.

I know there are a lot more new characters that we didn’t get to see yet- so I’m not locking these in as my final suspects… but I’m definitely going to pay attention to them, especially since I think I like it best when the killer is someone we see as early as episode 1. So those are the two I’m paying the most attention too.

The other new person we saw was Marshal Peepope- which sounds similar to ā€œpeep holeā€ which makes me think of the hole in Charles’s window and the whistling motif throughout the season. I don’t usually think they use names as clues but maybe they did this time? They’re always changing things up on the show.

What We Know About Saz šŸ•µšŸ» And some Other Things

So Saz has been Charles’s stunt double for years and has broken several bones and she’s gotten her joint replacements from Bulgaria. I don’t think that the killer knew about the joint replacements as they were left behind when she was put through the incinerator. So anyone that knows Saz really well will not be a suspect. I would say that rules out Charles, Jan who is likely still in jail, probably Scott Bakula and also probably Joy.

Saz also had a lot of mail and packages that were left at her apartment that hadn’t been picked up in a while. Maybe she was in New York longer than we thought? Maybe the killer was sending boxes to the house? Maybe Saz thought someone was after her and ordered things?

I also don’t usually count people we’ve seen in previous seasons as suspects… but it was a little bit suspicious the way that Howard didn’t know Gravey’s job at first but then he learns she was a cadaver dog. I don’t think he’s suspicious this season because why would he have Gravey help them then… but it was an interesting detail.

Also the killer wanted them to go to LA? Possibly so that they could fix the window before Charles noticed.

Okay I think that is everything I can think of to talk about right now… I really liked this episode and I’m really excited about the season. I think it’s off to a great start!

Bye!

-Shannon
