Okay- an exciting week at the box office with 2 new releases- one for kids and an R rated horror movie for adults… let’s see what else is charting.
1) Dog Man 36 Million Weekend+ Total Gross Debut Week
Okay I think this is the highest number 1 movie at the box office this year so far? The highest movie debuting at number 1 so far at least. I’m excited for this movie- the Dog Man books have been huge for so long and the Captain Underpants books from the same author were huge when I was little… this looks hilarious and I actually want to see it. I might try to see it sometime soon in theaters because it just looks really funny and the animation style is great.
2) Companion 9.3 Million weekend+ Total Gross debut week
Alright this is the movie I saw last Monday as the Scream Unseen movie- which I guess is factored into the total gross of this movie? Unsure but I was really excited to see this in theaters- the crowd seemed to love it. Everyone in my AMC group loved it… it’s a fun thriller that you should definitely check out.
3) Mufasa: The Lion King Weekend gross: 6.3 Million Total Gross 230 Million 7 weeks released
Another great week for Mufasa- which is a little surprising to me that this is still doing SO well when there’s a new kids movie that was released. I’ve heard mixed things about this movie but I kind of want to see it… I’ve never actually seen the live action lion king though so I’m not sure this is really for me… but it looks pretty good and the music sounded pretty good to me… a lot of people are saying it isn’t the best.
4) One of Them Days 5.9 Million Weekend Gross 34 Million Total Gross 3 weeks
Another movie that hasn’t been breaking the charts or anything but it debuted at number 1 and now it’s ahead of the number 1 movie last weekend so… I’m a little surprised. I don’t know a lot about this movie but it looks like a fun comedy. I’m glad it’s still doing well.
5) Flight Risk Weekend Gross 5.4 Million Total Gross 21 Million 2 weeks released Another
Alright here’s last week’s number 1 movie. I’m thinking maybe word got out that this movie isn’t quite as good as the trailer made it look… so maybe some people skipped it instead of watching it… it’s still an okay movie and unintentionally a pretty good comedy.
6) Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Weekend Gross 2.9 Million Total Gross 631 Million 7 weeks
Okay this movie was recently released digitally- it isn’t on Paramount+ yet so I haven’t seen it yet… my boyfriend didn’t really like it. He didn’t think it was as good as the second movie- which he also wasn’t that crazy about. I love that Sonic is getting really popular and I love the characters of Sonic- so that’s great at least… but I’m sad that the movies are kind of slipping in quality. Doesn’t matter though- kids still love it and they’re making more!
7) Moana 2 Weekend Gross 2.9 Million Total Gross 454 Million 10 weeks at the box office
8) A Complete Unknown Weekend Gross 2.3 Million Total Gross 67 Million 6 weeks
Okay the Bob Dylan biopic that’s getting Timothee Chalamet some Oscar buzz. I kind of want to see this because I want to see all the nominated movies and I like Timothee Chalamet… but I’m not much a fan of Bob Dylan and biopics aren’t my favorite movies… either way this is probably a good one.
9)The Brutalist Weekend Gross 1.9 Million Total Gross 12 Million 7 weeks
Okay this has been out for a while and I think critically it’s done really well… it’s just not the biggest box office hit being a war drama that is over 3 hours long… again I kind of want to see all the Oscar nominees but… this is a long movie- I’m not sure I really want to see this in theaters.
10) Den of Theives 2: Pantera 1.6 Weekend Gross 34 Million Total Gross 4 weeks
Okay- this is one I probably won’t see and I haven’t really heard about until recently that there’s a first movie to this. It’s a movie, it’s out there I don’t know what it’s about and I don’t think it’s playing near me anymore.
Coming This Week
Okay this week we’ve got some exciting releases, Love Hurts the action movie starting Ke Huy Quan and Ariana Debose and Sean Astin as well for a little Goonies reunion. I’m probably going to see this one this week and I think it’ll be really good.
Also Heart Eyes- or The Heart Eyes Killer- I think the name has been changed. I’m excited for this one too but I’m a little more excited for Love Hurts.
I’m Still Here is also on IMDB’s release calendar for this week- so I’m guessing that’s getting a wide release this weekend. It’s been nominated for best picture so I’m excited to see how that does too.
This Week in TV…
Okay so I want to talk about The Bachelor a little bit because… What’s the deal with Grant??? I liked him on Jenn’s season and I wanted him to be The Bachelor but… now he’s singing and telling Carolina he wants a kiss because he wants some lipstick on… get your own lipstick, Grant! Plus he told Litia she’s beautiful so people don’t say no to her… that’s a weird thing to say to a woman… I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt because he might be a little sleep deprived still… but it’s a bit weird. Plus he sent home the first girl he kissed on the show??? Odd.
There was also another great Abbot Elementary last week- the septa strike ended, the school gets to go to the golf course- we find out why Gregory doesn’t really like food and he tries for Janine which is very sweet. It was a good one.
We also had Elsbeth, Matlock and Ghosts come back… which I loved. Those are probably my favorite shows right now.
High Potential has also been really great and I think that’s new this week also… and it’s on tonight.
Physical Media Releases
Wicked and The Substance were just released- I preordered both of them… I watched The Substance this weekend and I am obsessed with it… and I’m probably going to watch Wicked today- my plan was to watch it all day on my day off… that hasn’t happened yet but I’m excited to own it.
I think that’s everything I want to talk about today… so that’s where I’ll leave this post!
Bye!
