31 Days of Spooky Movies: The Home (2025)

I saw this movie as a Scream Unseen in July- this was released around the same time as Together so I went into the movie thinking it was going to be Together and was disappointed as soon as I saw Pete Davidson on the screen. I think maybe I had seen one trailer for this movie before it was released- but I didn't even really remember it that well- anyway I didn't really know what to expect but I was watching it and I was really enjoying it... until it got bad.

This movie starts out with 2 young brothers that are being fostered by the same family- and then the parents let the younger brother know that his older brother died in college... flash forward several years and we see Pete Davidson getting arrested for spray painting a building. So full disclosure when I first saw this I was just trying to figure out why Pete Davidson wasn't Dave Franco and I didn't really understand what was going on. So I thought Pete Davidson killed the brother and not that that was his brother... the connection isn't really that clear in the movie and I don't think there was any indication of this being several years after we saw the brothers as kids.

He was told to do community service at a nursing home... which also a weird part of this movie. They really make it seem like he's a criminal but he's just tagging a building? And then when he gets to the nursing home they're not really treating him like he's doing community service... which maybe is normal? I've never had to do community service but it seemed odd. Plus he's like a totally different person when he gets to The Home- he's respectful and nice and not really acting like a criminal... it was just kind of strange.

So the nursing home starts getting a little spooky and he realizes something is up... and there's one twist that isn't the most interesting twist but then there's another twist... and the second twist when we find out what's actually going on just isn't that good. And then the movie just kind of ends like a slasher movie for no real reason...it was like they couldn't think of how to end it so they just ended it as a slasher movie... which wouldn't have been bad- but it didn't fit with the movie at all.

Another indicator of this being a bad movie was that it constantly had spooky looking cutaway shots with some slow motion and creepy music. Even at the part where I was still enjoying the movie- I couldn't really get passed these shots and I had a feeling something bad might be coming because of that.

This movie was Directed by James Demonaco and is rated R. This isn't streaming anywhere for free currently but I believe you can rent or buy it digitally. By the time I post this it should be available to buy on DVD or Blu Ray as well.
