Okay today is my Birthday!!! So today is a fitting day to end the reviews for a very popular horror franchise that I really like: Terrifier!
Although I do enjoy this trilogy- this movie was probably my least favorite of the three and I think it kind of lost the plot a little bit. I still like it because it did build the world quite a bit and there were a lot of very funny moments with Art the Clown... but I kind of wish they just did A Terrifier Christmas with Art The Clown doing a killing spree and no real lore connected to what we learned in the second movie... I think sometimes it got too caught up in being a Christmas movie to build the lore behind it up and sometimes the lore was dropped too much at once that it took away from the kills. This one was kind of the least scary of the three movies too- although maybe it was more disturbing overall. I think this one had to have had the most kills of any of the movie and a lot of them were pretty brutal and a lot of them were children... so this movie was kind of heavy for that reason.
I actually fast forwarded the part where Art kills a Mall Santa that he meets at a bar. I like Christmas horror but I kind of draw the line at killing Santa... and the way he kills Santa is pretty brutal- and we saw it earlier in the movie with a rat... I'm not like so sensitive that I think I would always skip that scene... but honestly the whole scene added nothing to the plot- you could totally skip the bar scene all together and the worst thing you would miss would be the cameo from Ron Howard's brother Clint Howard who was also in Silent Night Deadly Night (I think? he was in another christmas horror movie).
And that really is how the movie falls apart. The big kill scenes really don't progress the plot and then it ends and it's like all plot... so it feels out of nowhere. I would still watch any more Terrifier Movies that come out and I would watch the whole trilogy again... but this one falls a little flat compared to Terrifier 2 where we get such strong characters.
I do really appreciate the filmmaking of all 3 of these movies and the fact that the writers did listen to the feedback of the fans complaining the first movie was too sexist... so they added Sienna who is one of the strongest Final Girls of any movie I think and the writer and director Damien Leone was really proud of seeing her come to life in the movie... and that's pretty cool.
I also think this movie was filmed near me- I saw in the end credits that The Comic Crypt at Collingswood was mentioned- and I think that's a place that I've been too a few times! I actually just went there a few weeks ago and got an X Men comic! Although I'm not exactly sure if it was that one because I thought it said at Collingswood Auction- which is different... but this is nearby to collingswood so maybe it's the same one? That was cool to see though!
I'll probably talk about the darkest scenes in the movies at some point... maybe in November I'll talk about it. I think I've got all my horror movie's for the rest of the month planned out already. I'm writing this one month early- so I'm going to see Seed of Chucky, I'll see Him in theaters on Friday and I'll post a review of that... and then I'm going to watch a lot of my horror DVDS and blu rays that I have- which includes some really good ones! This won't be my only franchise I'm reviewing this season hopefully!
So yeah- I will see you guys soon!
Bye!
