Okay-so it took me a little bit- but today I was not a chicken and I have a review for Terrifier 2. This movie was a little bit less scary than the first one to me. It might be a little bit more bloody and we do get a little more character development and I guess a tiny bit of backstory of Art the clown... so I thought it was a better movie overall- but a little less scary.
Anyway this time around its Halloween again and it's one year after the attacks and we are following Sienna and her younger brother Jonathan who are both grieving their late father and also a little bit scared from last year's Halloween massacre- they're in the same town and it seemed like while their dad was sick- he was having premonitions about Art the clown. Sienna is having similar premonitions at the beginning of the movie.
So this movie is a little bit more gruesome than the first movie- most of the kills are on screen and a lot of times art will be doing brutal terrible things to people- and they're still alive... which is gruesome and sad. It's not like Art is killing any bad people either- he's just kind of doing this... somewhat randomly.
This one is also very supernatural compared to the first one where the supernatural elements weren't until the end of the movie... so this movie was a little bit more fun in that aspect. The clown cafe was pretty fun- although it was a little disappointing because it was mostly a dream sequence- it kind of pays off at the end... but it was still fun to watch.
Anyway I liked the characters in this movie more- I'm glad to see the third movie still follows them... but nervous because I'm not sure they'll survive facing off with Art a second time... but we can hope so! Especially with Sienna's magic sword... which was also very cool. Sienna had a cool halloween costume on that was based off a character her dad drew for her... so it was good.
The main themes I got from this movie were struggles with grief and I would say addiction too. There's lots of drug use in this one and open themes of Sienna and Jonathan and their mom dealing with grief and it kind of shows how it affects the people around them as well. I kind of wish Sienna's friends were in it a little more because it seemed like she had one really good friend and one friend that didn't really care about Sienna as much. I would kind of like these female friendship and relationship themes to be explored more in these movies. Art mostly kills women in the movie... so it would be sadder if they focused more on the female relationships... but there was a little more character development in this one and it just kind of missed the mark with that part.
I don't want to spoil too much of this one... I almost didn't watch the post credits scene- but I thought there might be something else to it- so I fast forwarded it to that part... it was great. This movie reminded me a lot of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies... it was more serious than those ones... but it felt similar in tone and scariness. This is a late night horror movie for sure and very dream like scariness.
Terrifier 2 is available to stream on Prime Video, Peacock, Pluto Tv and Tubi- the last 2 are both free services. It is rated R and directed by Damien Leone.
That's everything I hope you guys like this review!
Bye!
