So I did still skip around and I missed a few Chucky movies- but after seeing the end of Bride of Chucky- I had to see Seed of Chucky to see how this series turns out. Will I watch the other Chucky and Child's Play movies? Maybe- but I'm not planning on seeing them during this challenge of blogs... but the series might be one I watch for it. I'm not sure.
After giving birth to a son (or daughter) Chucky and Tiffany lose their ability to come to life and are now being used as props in a movie about them starring Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany (yes Jennifer Tilly plays Tiffany in real life to) and in this Tilly is sort of trying to get her career on track and is sick of losing out on roles to Julia Roberts. So she wants to star in a movie about The Virgin Mary that Redman is directing... and she's planning on sleeping with him to get the part.
Meanwhile- Glen- Chucky and Tiffany's Son- is in a ventriliquist act known as Sh*thead or something... and he wonders who his parents are and then sees Chucky on tv with the same "Made in Japan" logo that Glen has. So he goes to find his parents... and mayhem ensues... and Jennifer Tilly is just there as herself... its very meta, very funny and there's a few kills but it's not really that scary.
The one thing I don't really like about this movie is that the premise is a little bit too similar to Bride of Chucky and its just not really as good. It might be funnier and there are parts of it that I liked more than Bride of Chucky... but overall Bride of Chucky's plot is a little bit better.
One of the more interesting things about this movie is that Glen isn't anatomically correct- so he's trying to decide if he's a boy- Glen or a girl- Glenda... and that's a little bit ahead of its time. I'm excited to see how the show handles him. The director of this movie- Don Mancini is gay and he said that he wrote Glen/Glenda as sexually confused because it related to his coming out. They also changed the name from Son of Chucky to Seed of Chucky- I assume to reflect the Glen/ Glenda storyline. I think that's pretty cool.
Overall this was a good Chucky movie- my least favorite of the three I've seen... but also it is pretty good because I did really like Glen/Glenda and... overall there were some cool things in this movie. I love a hororr movie that doesn't take itself seriously... and this and Bride of Chucky do not at all.
Seed of Chucky is available to stream on Peacock along with pretty much every other Chucky movie- I think maybe the first Child's Play is the only one not in it. It is also available to own on DVD, Blu Ray, 4K and digital, and it may be expensive and hard to find- but it was released on VHS and may be available to find secondhand. I checked on Ebay because I wasn't sure if this was even old enough to have a vhs release- and it was but I believe the last VHS was a movie that was released in 2005 (A History of Violence starring Viggo Mortinson) and this movie was released in 2004... so it might be a little more rare and it is pretty expensive on ebay right now. But still- check your physical media stores and thrift stores... they might have it! This was also Rated R and directed by Don Mancini.
Bye!
