This is the Halloween movie with no real connection to the other movies and the only one without Michael Meyers. The original idea for this franchise was to tell different stories about scary things that happen on Halloween- and this was one of the stories. I think this movie gets some bad reviews because it's not connected to the other Halloween movies at all and it's a little slow and the plot isn't necessarily the best... but it is interesting and I think this could have been a classic Science Fiction horror movie if this wasn't called Halloween 3. My boyfriend saw a review of that on Letterboxed and I totally agree with that review. Especially after seeing some of the other halloween movies... This fits in with the first two movies and it's far better than 4,5,and 6... so yeah.
The movie has some flaws- sure but it isn't terrible and to me the end is one of the scariest of the Halloween movies because it doesn't really show what happens. The plot is that this store called Silver Shamrock is selling these masks and people that have the masks start noticing weird things- and someone dies after wearing one... a lot happens. There's a lot going on in this one- but it leads to some Evil CEOs, some ancient artifacts, and spooky masks? There's also a bit of a mind control subplot... And anytime a tv is on we see an annoying ad for the store Silver Shamrock that establishes how many days it is until Halloween.
There are some weird time skips in this movie- we start with 8 days till Halloween and then it's suddenly 2 days till Halloween and not a whole lot happens... but then things start happening and it gets pretty scary. The last hour or so of the movie is when things really pick up and it gets scary when we learn what the plan of the Silver Shamrock CEO is.
Overall- even though this doesn't have much to do with the other Halloween movies- I liked the vision of this one and the pacing and the way the story is told doesn't really feel disconnected from the other movies. It works pretty well with the other movies and I really liked it!
This movie is rated R and directed by Tommy Lee Wallace. You can watch this movie on Peacock or AMC+/ Shudder I think and it is also available to own on DVD, Blu Ray,Digital, and 4k. You can probably even find a VHS of this one.
Bye!
