Alright- the ultimate slasher movie is today's spooky movie: Halloween. I've seen this movie before- but I've never seen the sequels- and I own most of them... so now is the time to watch them!
So if you've never seen this movie... you need to. It is a classic for a reason- and I'm positive several horror movies you've seen have references to this from Billy Loomis's name in Scream to the Chucky show showing young Charles Lee Ray in a Halloween costume sneaking up on his mom. Even Buffy The Vampire Slayer makes references to it... it was an inspiration for a lot of movies... If you like horror movies you have to watch this one for sure.
I don't know if this is my favorite of the slasher movies or the more modern monster movies... but I do think this is the one that really started the trend of these and made it a classic. It's really creepy that this man with a scary face or mask that stalks people down and kills for no reason. And also he seems to not be able to die- which we don't really know for sure until the very end of the movie. It might not be as scary by today's standards- but it is really scary and the kills were pretty good. I guess the stalking that we see Michael Meyers do is what kind of sets this apart from something like Nightmare on Elm Street- which I think has more creative kills.
My boyfriend and I really liked how the movie looked as well. It takes place in a small suburban town on Halloween and it looks like a small suburban town on Halloween. It's very autumnal, the streets are really clear- the houses all look nice and decorated. It's really nice looking. The outfits in this movie are also really great. Very 70's and stylish- same with the makeup. Jamie Lee Curtis has a really pretty lipgloss shade on during the movie. Even Michael Meyers costume is pretty well detailed because he steals the workers clothes- so he just looks very regular in his costume.
So yeah- I do really like this movie- I'm not sure the whole series will be as good- but I'm excited to watch them regardless and I'll have a lot more to say then!
Halloween is directed by John Carpenter and rated R. It is available to stream on Plex and Peacock I believe. It is also available to own on DVD, blu ray, 4K, and it was once available on VHS- so you may be able to find it again. There are also several box sets with multiple versions on this movie for various formats. One collection of 4k's I believe in the Michael Meyers House set is a popular collectors version- I'm not sure if that is available anymore.
Bye!
