This movie sounded really good to me when it came out… but it was a weird indie movie I don’t think I could convince anyone to watch with me. My boyfriend knew I wanted to see it and grabbed this from his local library and we watched it together.
So this stars Anya Taylor Joy and Olivia Cooke as Lily and Amanda. Both girls know each other from school and Amanda has been troubled recently for stabbing a horse- which we later find out was her mom’s horse that could never walk again… and they’re putting her on trial for animal abuse I think. Lily is paid by Amanda’s mom to be her friend- which Amanda finds out from reading her emails. We also find out Amanda feels nothing- no empathy, no remorse, no happiness. Nothing- which she reveals to Amanda.
Amanda feels a lot of things but we learn she doesn’t always make the best decisions. She’s in trouble for plagiarizing at school. She also doesn’t get along with her stepdad… and when she finds out that Amanda has no feeling- she comes up with a plan to kill him… but it doesn’t really go accordingly and we have to see what she’ll do.
I liked this movie but the characters are very unlikable. I like that when it comes to horror movies and thrillers sometimes and I thought this movie did a good job making us still care about the characters while knowing they’re bad people.
This movie also has one of the last performances of Anton Yelchin and he did a great job in this. He kind of added to the absurdity of the plot and overall I just liked his character a lot.
I would recommend this movie if you can find it. I don’t think it’s streaming anywhere- but it is available to rent or own on all the different video formats. This was the directorial debut of Cory Finley- who I think I want to see more movies from… but I’ve looked at his other movies and they also seem to be hard to find and I’m not as interested in them.
That is everything! I hope you like this!
Bye!
