30 More Days of Movies: The Wizard of Oz

Alright- wicked For Good comes out tomorrow and I will be seeing it tomorrow at 7! I’m also seeing it at Kevin Smith’s movie theater- which should be interesting but anyway before I see that movie I wanted to watch The Wizard of Oz and Wicked part 1 so I will be reviewing those movies first and then reviewing Wicked For Good on Saturday.

So yeah I love The Wizard of Oz- after watching it last year I’ve decided to watch it once a year at least. My favorite part about this movie is that I still remember being a kid and watching the movie for the first time and remembering what was going on. I remember seeing the scarecrow come to life and realizing that he always had a brain, and the tin man always had a heart and the lion always had courage… it was something I watched all the time as a kid and it’s something that sticks with me every time I watch it.

I also kind of appreciate the actors in the movie more because this was not an easy movie to work on. The Lion and the Tin Man’s costumes were horribly uncomfortable and I think they nearly killed them. The Munchkins were also treated horribly and weren’t even credited properly which is awful. I appreciate everything these actors went through and the fact that they were able to get through this movie and do such a great job creating their iconic characters.

So this movie’s story is entertaining, the characters and acting are great and this movie was also very technically interesting. I’m not sure if this was the first movie to be in color- but it was very early on which is why parts of the movie aren’t in color and you get things like the color changing horse- which was just supposed to be a green horse but they didn’t really know or have the technology to get that right yet. It’s interesting to see how they did what they did and how it all came together and worked.

Plus… petty much every other narrative story takes from this because it’s very simple and effective. This story inspired millions of people and techniques and quotes and songs from this movie are still so important today. I quote this movie a lot without really noticing it. I think a lot of people do and there’s a reason this is so good that the movie series of the last 2 years is a retelling of this. It’s a great movie and it’s probably one of if not my actual favorites. I highly recommend watching it again if you haven’t seen it in a while.

bye!
