30 More Days of Movies: Ghost

Another movie that's been on my list for forever and a co-worker of mine recommended I watch this one. She said she's seen this movie a few times and she cries every time. I definitely think this is a movie that will connect more if you saw it while it was popular- and while I still enjoyed it... I was expecting it to be the most romantic movie of all time and to me I don't think it was. I also think if anyone else had been cast in this movie it would not work.
So this movie stars Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze with a very much beloved Oscar Winning Performance from Whoopi Goldberg. Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze are a couple that are just moving into their dream home and getting their lives together... and they aren't married but they have a fight about getting married and then someone tries to rob them and ends up killing Patrick Swayze's character Sam.
Before getting killed we see Sam working at his job which is Business and he finds out that there's more money than there should have been somewhere or money is missing somewhere. We find out later that this is the reason behind the seemingly random murder and that someone he knows is behind it all.
Sam also goes to a psychic- Whoopi Goldberg- and while he's yelling at her for ripping a woman off- she ends up hearing him which has never happened before and then she starts talking to him. Sam found out that his murderer was at his house and it looked like he was trying to hurt Demi Moore's character- Molly. So he tries to get Whoopi to warn Molly about the guy.
So it kind of becomes a cat and mouse type of game with Sam trying to haunt the guy behind everything and Molly going to the police and them telling her not to believe Whoopi Goldberg... but she eventually believes Whoopi Goldberg... it's a lot.
While I did like this movie in the end- and the ending was very emotional... I'm not sure everything aged well by today's standards. It seemed to perpetuate negative stereotypes... a lot of back and forth between if Molly believed the psychic and if she didn't. The "Ghost" aspects were also kind of weird in the movie- like the way he was proving he was really there to Molly could have been done earlier in the movie. Also sometimes it worked in one scene and didn't in another but he was kind of doing the same things. They showed another ghost training him in using his ghost powers- so I guess that had something to do with it- but overall it was just a little bit cheesy.
I get that people really liked this movie when it was released and it is a very emotional movie and the acting is very good... but there have been a lot of better movies released since this that have me thinking this movie is just a little bit overrated. It is not bad- just not the best movie of all time and I think that's okay still.
That is everything! I hope you like this review... I don't dislike the movie I just don't know that it would have worked in another time or with another cast.
Bye!
