30 More Days of Movies: Georgia Rule

Okay now onto my favorite of the lighthearted comedies- the one that is secretly a drama... the Gary Marshall directed Georgia Rule starring Lindsay Lohan, Felicity Hoffman, Jane Fonda, Dermott Mulroney, Garret Hedlund and Cary Elwes. None of these people are Diane Keaton
Trigger Warning: This movie is about abuse. They don't show that in the trailer at all- but the main conflict of the movie is that Lindsay Lohan's character claims to have been abused by her stepdad- Cary Elwes and her grandma Georgia (Jane Fonda) and her boss (Dermott Mulroney) believe her... but her mom (Felicity Hoffman) has a hard time believing her husband would do that and that she missed it.
Anyway- knowing that is what the movie is about- it does start off with Lohan's character Rachel going to live with Georgia after constant arguments with Felicity Hoffman- including one where she gets out of the car on the way to visit Georgia in Idaho- which she hasn't been to since she was a little kid. She also meets her mom's old boyfriend (Dermott Mulroney) who becomes her boss and a good friend and male relationship with her when she needs it- and the very sweet and handsome Garret Hedlund who's character ends up going on a Mormon Mission- but he promises he's going to come back and marry Rachel... who really is not that interested in him as anything other than a friend. But for him she's unlike anyone he's ever met so he's in love right away (that and... she opens his world a little bit.)
Lindsay Lohan is one of my favorite actresses and I really loved her in this movie. Jane Fonda also did a really great job. I like Felicity Hoffman- but I think she was the weakest part of the movie. Even compared to the men of the movie- I thought everyone did a great job and she just wasn't as good as Lindsay Lohan or Jane Fonda. This was also a really different role for Cary Elwes... but he can kind of play anything. I still need to watch The Princess Bride- I might try to watch that for this challenge- but I love Cary Elwes in Robin Hood Men In Tights and Saw. This was a more villainous role for him- but he did a really great job in it and I was excited to see him in this movie. Even though he played such a terrible terrible person- I think he's a good actor.
I should also mention- I like Gary Marshall as a director a lot. I should watch more of his movies- again I might do that for this challenge but... he's really good.
My boyfriend actually got this movie for me from his library- I think it might be streaming somewhere-but it's not anywhere big. It might be Tubi or a free service but I'm not sure.
Bye!
