So this I immediately wanted to see after watching the movie Ghost because I feel like this is a similar movie that’s a little bit underrated. I didn’t think it would be streaming anywhere- but I went to find another movie to watch on Peacock and there it was!
So this state Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. Nicholas Cage is an angel that visits humans- but usually isn’t seen. The rule is “they can’t be seen unless they want to be seen” although in his case he doesn’t really know he wants to be seen when a young doctor- Meg Ryan- sees him. Meg Ryan’s a very confident doctor- but she just lost a patient during surgery and she’s having a hard time recovering from that.
So Nicholas Cage falls in love with her because she’s Meg Ryan and of corse he does… and she’s got a bit of a crush on him and eventually finds out he’s an angel and she gets scared at first but eventually falls in love with him.
Seth (Nicholas cage) ends up meeting a patient of Meg Ryan’s played by Dennis Franz and he finds out that the patient used to be an angel- but he gave it up to become human. There are things he misses from when he was an angel- Like this song that they sing every morning I think- which he can’t hear now that he’s human… but he still thinks it’s worth it to actually feel the ocean and to see his family.
So then Nicholas Cage has to decide: does he really want to give up eternity to be with this woman. Would it be worth it- whichever choice he makes? The ending of this movie is very emotional and it makes me appreciate the little things about life that we don’t always appreciate.
This movie also probably has the best soundtrack of all time…a lot of famous songs from the 90s were for this movie. Iris from the Goo Goo Dolls, Uninvited from Alanis Morisette, I think Arms of the Angels by Sarah McLaughlin was also made for this movie- or at least it’s in the movie. If you don’t see the movie at least listen to the soundtrack- it’s totally worth it!
I also thought the performances in this movie were great. Obviously Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan did a great job, Dennis Franz and Andre Braugher were also in this movie and it was great to see them. It’s a weird movie and not my favorite- but it’s still worth watching and I would recommend it. And I would watch it again!
