25 Days of Romance Movies: While You Were Sleeping (1995)

Sandra Bullock plays Lucy- a lovable but lonely woman working in a ticket booth at the train station. She has fond memories of her father- and how he used to tell her stories about her mother- but she has no family left and just wants a bigger life than what she has now. She also has a crush on a man she sees getting on the train every day- but she’s never really spoken to. On Christmas he gets into a fight with someone and he gets pushed onto the tracks and Lucy jumps onto the tracks when a train is coming and she ends up rolling him away from the train while he’s unconscious.

There’s a mix up that happens at the hospital because she wants to know that he’s okay but she’s not family so she can’t go in. She says “I was going to marry him” because idk I guess she’s delusional and thinks not speaking to a man means she can marry him eventually… a nurse hears her and lets her in… and when the man’s family shows up- she says “Lucy is his fiance” and they believe her of course. They also immediately love Lucy and she loves them… so it’s hard for her to not keep up the lie.

It gets even harder when she meets the man’s dreamy and sweet brother played by Bill Pullman… who she ends up falling for… right before the man wakes up from the coma.

I feel like this couldn’t be remade today but it’s a really fun movie with a great cast and I would watch it again!
