I’m a big fan of Emily Henry’s earlier romance books-
this was actually the first one I read from her so I’ve been looking forward to the Netflix Adaptation for quite a while. While I don’t think it was a bad movie… I’m not sure that it was the best way to represent the book.
This is a movie about Poppy- a girl that works at a travel website or magazine or something. She grew
up in a small town and she likes traveling and seeing the world to kind of hide from a bad reputation she got in high school. She meets her best friend Alex in college where they carpool back to the same hometown that they’ve lived in their whole lives but never met before. They both end up agreeing to take one vacation together every year.
In the book she does a blog for the trips before she gets the job at the website or magazine and the job she gets kind of ruins the vacations for her and Alex and she doesn’t like the job as much as she liked her blog. I don’t think the movie does a great job of showing this or really explaining what her job is. I don’t really think this takes away from the movie because we do see their vacations and how fun they were at the start and how things changed throughout the years. I think that kind of lends itself to being a better movie. I thought it was to appeal to an older audience that doesn’t know about blogging.
My boyfriend thought maybe it made the movie a little cozier. I don’t think that was a bad choice made for the movie… but it did kind of take away from what her job was.
I really liked the cast of this movie. Alex was exactly like I imagined him. Poppy looks different than the cover of the book- but I still really loved the actress that played her. She made the movie kind of- she really portrayed Poppy’s fun personality and wanderlust really well.
I would definitely say to check out this movie! I will likely watch it again!
bye!
