25 Days of Romance Movies: Kate and Leopold (2001)

This is a movie I remember seeing trailers for when I was a kid and it looked really cute but I was just a kid and I was way more interested in seeing things like Harry Potter and Shrek- which were out around the same time. I always kind of remembered it though because we don’t really get a lot of time travel rom coms today and I thought this one was really fun. It stars Meg Ryan as Kate and Hugh Jackman as leopold… with several other cameos including Rob Reiner, Kristin Schaal, Breckin Meyer, Liev Scriver, Viola Davis and Natasha Lyonne.

So the movie starts with Leopold- the Duke of Albany who is also a scientist and creator of the elevator seeing a strange man around town and at some of his parties… and he ends up following the man and ends up in New York in 2001.

The man that he followed was Kate’s ex boyfriend Stuart who lives in the same apartment complex as her. He explains that he discovered Time Travel and now he has to take care of this Duke until the portal opens so that he can get back home. Kate doesn’t really believe him- she doesn’t really believe a lot about what Stuart does- but she does end up befriending Leopold and showing him around Modern New York a little.

This was a very sweet movie and there are a lot of

really funny moments throughout it. Definitely more than I was expecting. I feel like this one is a little bit underrated… I think I actually liked it more than You’ve Got Mail. I thought it was sweet to see Leopold’s relationship with Kate and that he helps out Kate’s brother… and even his friendship with Stuart. It was a fun friend group to see together and you can see how everyone cares about each other.

I would definitely recommend watching this movie… it’s cute- I would definitely watch it again! It’s streaming on Paramount Plus right now and it’s a perfect Valentine’s day movie.

bye!
