25 Days of Romance Movies: Runaway Bride (1999)

I was excited to finally watch this one because I grew up seeing this around a lot but I've never actually seen it. I remember seeing some of the commercials for it on tv and I know I saw the poster for it- I think they had it right outside of the mall entrance of my movie theater for a long time... but I've never actually seen the movie itself.

I was actually pretty disappointed in this one. It once again starred Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Richard Gere plays Ike Graham who's kind of a sleazy reporter that seems to write articles about how awful women are. People that read his column have been upset about it- but he has his fans too. One drunk man in a bar tells him about a woman that's run out on several men at the altar of their wedding and she's engaged again and getting married soon. She ends up printing a retraction about the article and he ends up getting fired for reporting this story without the woman's consent or any real facts about the subject of the article. He ends up going to visit her in her very small town and he visits her ex fiances and her family members and her current fiance.

So he ends up falling for her and she falls for him to... and I don't want to spoil to much of the movie... but she kind of faces the issues she has and she lets herself fall for this guy and everyone in the town is rooting for them.

I didn't really like the plot of this movie. I thought Richard Gere's character was a little annoying and Julia Roberts character had some real issues that were just kind of shown as "quirky" and I wasn't sure I really liked it that much. It was also a very snowy day that I watched this and I rediscovered Mobile Games on my phone... so I was distracted while watching it but honestly... If I had been 100% paying attention to this one I might have liked it even less. I'll try to give it another chance someday... but right now this is not my favorite movie on this list for sure.
