This was a slasher movie that I was interested in seeing last year- but my boyfriend's sister saw it and she said it sucked... so I figured it probably wasn't anything special it's just a run of the mill slasher movie with a Valentine's Day Theme... and it 100% was just a slasher movie set at Valentine's Day with nothing special about it. I think the end of the movie is supposed to have a bit of a twist to it... but really it doesn't.
So this movie stars Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding as Ally and Jay- a pair that keeps on meeting on Valentine's Day and they end up having a business dinner together later on on Valentine's Day night. He's supposed to be helping her with an ad campaign that she did that was a little bit too violent for Valentine's Day. The last few years there's been a "Heart Eyes" killer that's been killing couples on Valentine's Day and the ad was seen as insensitive to the victims of the Heart Eyes killer.
Meanwhile- we learn that the Heart Eyes killer is in Seattle- which is the setting of this movie. And while Ally and Jay are not on a date- they do have a lot of chemistry and they're both attractive so the killer goes after them assuming that they are on a date. And then Jay gets wrongfully accused of being the Heart Eyes Killer and Ally has to save him.
I think the most frustrating thing in this movie is the killer reveal. It's really obvious who the killer is but you wouldn't necessarily expect them because they have no motive for their crimes other than that they're serial killers.
The kills in this movie also aren't really that interesting. They aren't the worst kills ever...but 2025 was filled with some amazing horror movies with some really great kills... this one was probably one of the worst... if not the worst.
There are also better Valentine's Day or romantic horror movies that you can watch if you don't want to just watch romance movies all season... but this is available on Netflix if you're looking for something. I was kind of hoping this would be something like Eli Roth's Thanksgiving- which is very fun and has a really good twist... but this is just kind of an okay horror movie!
Bye!
