Alright- after my disappointing movie yesterday I decided to watch one of my favorite movies for today's post: My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Oddly I didn't even really think about this movie when I first came up with this idea for watching 25 romance movies- but when I realized it I was like "Oh yeah- I definitely have to include this movie" it was a must- watch for me... so I was excited to watch this one again for the 1 Millionth time.
I am very biased for this movie- as I've mentioned it is one of my all time favorites- I should try to watch this one at least once a year... I think it's been a bit longer since I've seen this one... but I used to watch this like every day. I am Greek so obviously I connected to the story- my parents had a big Greek wedding so when my mom first heard about this movie in 2002 she really wanted to see it. Over all it was just a really fun movie and I have a lot of nostalgia for the movie... so watching it again this time just felt like catching up with an old friend or something. It was great.
This particular watch of this movie I found the meet cute and the romance of this movie between Toula and Ian to be very cute. Even before she had her makeover- Ian saw her and he was laughing at her joke and he was interested in her. Then he saw her in the window of the Travel Agency and she was really in her element and she was confident and happy... He saw her thriving basically and it was just really attractive to him. It was sweet.
I also thought that the parts with Ian's parents were really funny in this watch. Just the contrast between the two of them and Toula's family... it's really funny. I love the scene where Toula is talking to her mom on the phone about meeting her future in-laws and she mentions the whole family is coming over and you see the giant table filled with food for the night for the entire family... it's just so funny.
So yeah definitely recommend checking this one out. I would even recommend watching 2 and 3. 2 is very funny and 3 is a little bit sad but it's still a good one to watch. Especially if you're Greek or if you've seen this movie a lot.
Bye!
