25 Days of Romance Movies: 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Alright today is another one of my favorite Romance movies: 10 Things I Hate About You! This movie is a 90s retelling of Shakespeare’s Taming of The Shrew that takes place in a high school. Kat and Bianca stratford are 2 sisters who live with their dad after their mom left, and their dad is really strict so he won’t let Bianca- his youngest daughter date anyone until Kat- the older daughter dates someone. Kat isn’t really the friendliest person and… she doesn’t really want to date anyone- so Bianca can’t date anyone. The new kid in school- Cameron- really wants to date Bianca- so he tries to find someone for Kat to date and he finds Patrick Verona- played by a young Heath Ledger. Patrick is as scary as Kat so he seems to be a good fit for her. They also get someone else- Joey a jerk that also has a crush on Bianca to pay him to go out with Kat.

I’ve never actually read taming of the Shrew- but this is such a fun retelling. I love Shakespearean retellings because the characters always end up so good. This one is my favorite besides the play Shucked… i’ll definitely have at least one more shakespeare retelling i’m planning on watching for

this challenge.

Overall definitely watch this movie if you haven’t yet. Great actors in some of their first rolls and overall it’s just such a fun nostalgic movie. I’ve seen this so many times and I’ll definitely see it a bunch more.
