Today I have 2 slightly modern retellings of A Christmas Carol. Both of these movies I saw for the first time last year too- and I’ll probably continue to watch them every year.
Spirited
Spirited shows the organization of ghosts behind A Christmas Carol trying to work on an Irredeemable person- an executive named Clint played by Ryan Reynolds. Will Ferrell plays the Ghost of Christmas Past- who is also Scrooge or who Scrooge was based off of.
I’m a Ryan Reynolds fan- I still am… I don’t really believe all the stuff that’s been said about him. I also am a massive fan of Will Ferrell who plays The Ghost of Christmas Past in this. I think they do a great job together and I liked their singing in this. Patrick Page is also in this and I wished he had had more songs in this- he is a famous Broadway Actor- the original Hades in Hadestown and the husband of Paige Davis- the host of Trading Spaces. Anyway- the cast of this is great. It actually made me cry when I watched it this time around. There’s a very sweet romance plot that made me think about my own boyfriend and how lucky I am to have him in my life.
So my niece loves Will Ferrel and she really loves this movie- so I watched it a few times last year because of her. I really loved the movie too- I will probably watch it again this year. I think the music is great- I love the characters and overall its just a fun movie and a good musical. I wish this had a physical release- but it is only available on Apple TV.
Scrooged
This is another movie I had kind of watched before but I never really liked it enough to watch it again- until last year when I was watching as many different Christmas Movies as possible and I ended up really liking it! This year I don't know that I can say I liked it as much... it's still a funny movie and I love all the ghosts but he's just such a bad guy at the start of the movie it's kind of hard to get on his side.
Overall this is still a really funny take on A Christmas Carol and I really love the recurring joke of Mary Lou Retten as Tiny Tim. I might watch it again this year- I recommend it a lot!
Bye!
