I don't want to say a lot about this movie because I went into it not really looking forward to it that much- but I ended up loving it so so much. It's probably my favorite MCU movie and possibly even my favorite comic movie... and it will probably be on my top movies list for the year. I just thought it was really great overall and one of the best marvel movies I've seen recently.
I'm going to kind of look at this as a stand alone. I do think to an extent- all marvel movies can be enjoyed as stand alones. My dad hadn't seen any of the MCU movies- but he really liked Wandavision and I didn't give him much explanation for it. I think you could watch this without watching the other marvel movies and still enjoy it. They even give a good description of what happens in the other movies at the end- Which is great.
I think if you love animals- you'll really connect to this movie. The CGI animals they have in this are some of the best honestly and it just kind of pulls at your heart strings because these beings look more like animals.
So last night I was thinking about how I was going to see this movie and I thought they were probably going to have a long subplot with Julia Louis Dryfus... and I don't love those as a whole. I get that it's establishing a movie that's coming out... but that doesn't come out until 2024... I don't need like 30 minutes of this added to Black Panther. But she wasn't in this. My discovery of the night though was that she was in The New Adventures of Old Christine alongside Clark Gregg- who plays agent Coulson. I wish they had had him as her ex husband instead of the other guy.
Also the soundtrack for this movie was just really really good. I liked that they played music up to the 2000s for this one. I like the Florence and The Machine song they played- that's one of my sisters favorite bands- so I like them too. The ending was also really good.
It was also different than the trailer. I didn't know it would be told the way it was narratively based on the trailer. I also thought that it was some peoples last movie for sure but then there were several parts in the movie where I questioned that. Overall this surprised me.
The movie also didn't feel too long. It did feel long but I liked how long it was. There were points during Ant Man and Black Panther where I had kind of hoped it wasn't as long... but I was just eating this one up. It was great!
The post credits scenes were both good- I think the audience I saw was disappointed in the second scene but... I liked it. There was a nod to the holiday special- which I really liked. They didn't add anything to the story though- they were just kind of fun follow ups. So if you miss the post credits scene- it's fine to wait for the dvd or streaming.
That is everything! I hope you guys like this!
Bye!
Shannon
