All right- so I've been wanting to do this for a while where I listen to a well loved song and I decide if it's the best song ever. I'm not really going to choose from a time period or anything- I'm just going to go to all songs that I like. I'll talk about why I like them- I think I'll eventually rank them and maybe say why I think other people like them. So yeah. Since I am the one deciding what the greatest song of all time is- no songs I don't like will be on this list. I apologize to Adele. It is nothing personal. I also might not just talk about the hit singles cause... my favorite song isn't actually a single. Also just because I like one song more than another doesn't necessarily mean it's going to win. I think all the songs that I'll be reviewing here are good songs. And music always changes- so... this list is totally biased but will also be me trying to not be biased at all. I don't know how this is going to work... but I'll figure that out at some time.
Why I Like Ziggy Stardust:
When I first listened to David Bowie this was the song from the Best of Bowie album that stood out to me the most. I really liked the guitar intro to the song in the beginning. I love Bowie's voice in this... and I really do love the concept of the song... Ziggy was a real character to me and I could just picture this lonely guy playing guitar on Mars and fans loving him- but his ego gets in the way of his happiness. Fame makes a man take things over. It happened to so many rock stars and celebrities that I know and love. It was heartbreaking and at the same time- it just ends with the lines "Ziggy Played Guitar." You can still admire him. He played guitar. It's so good.
Why do other people like this song?
Well, if you're a fan of Bowie- his songs are really more of a work of art than just a song... and the whole album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust" is really amazing... and this kind of introduces us to Ziggy himself. It's pretty cool.
I know science fiction is used in a lot of Bowie songs too and I think a lot of people are fans of that and can appreciate that aspect of this song.
I also think it's very nostalgic. Whenever I hear it on the radio I smile and say "oh David Bowie" and I think of the first time I heard the song. It's instantly recognizable and easy to sing along to. I remember years ago there used to be a website where you could type a sentence and it would take different bites of different songs and play your sentence with the songs... for As it was the line "ass" from this song. And that was cool.
Ranking
Right now this is number 1 on the list... but I'm not going to get any more until whenever the next time I do a list like this is. Possibly next week lol. So yeah. So far the list of greatest songs of all time is just.
Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie.
It'll get longer when I do more of these. Give me some suggestions! If I like the song I will consider it. Don't suggest Adele.
Bye!
