So this is the first song on this list that's actually moved me to tears. I also just listened to Freebird- which I think could move someone to tears and I listened to this song 3 times. First the album version, then her performance at the 2018 Grammys where she stood alongside Dolly Parton, Rihanna, Camilla Cabello and many other amazing female performers, and then the first time she played it live.
Kesha was a really popular singer when I was in High School and she just kind of disappeared out of no where and it was because basically she went through hell and was silenced. Her producer- Dr. Luke abused Kesha and she couldn't get out of her contract with him... so she sued him. Several female performers helped her legal fees to show their support for Kesha and... it was really a powerful time.
Why I like it:
Kesha is an incredibly strong human being and the fact that this song I feel like perfectly encapsulates her anger, and showing everyone that no- she won't be silenced and she does it with such grace... I don't know that I could ever be that strong.
I also LOVE this album. It's one of my favorite albums of all time and... the fact that it took her so much to get this album released and it's some of the best music of all time is just amazing.
Why other people like it:
This song came out around the Me Too era and it kind of became an anthem for that so to speak. This is just one of the best songs of all time.
Ranking:
Okay all things considered... I think this might be #2 on my list. Lyrically I think this could be the strongest of the bunch... and it definitely holds up. Especially if you're listening to it with the right context... this song just hits hard.
Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie
Praying by Kesha
Superstition by Stevie Wonder
Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd
What's on the list next? I'm not quite sure... but I guess you'll find out in a few days.
Bye!
